Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader Program is intended to increase a student's interest in reading, along with their vocabulary, and their comprehension. We have tried to encompass in our selections, both books that are considered to be classics and books that provide for a wide range of current interests. Once the student reads the book, a quiz is taken that asks ten questions pertaining to the book. Test scores are used to keep track of what books students have read and their comprehension. The accelerated reader program is not used for grading purposes, it is just a resource for parents and students.
High school students should give particular consideration to participating in the program. A strong background in the classics will be a helpful step toward success in college literature classes and will also help increases vocabulary scores on scholastic achievement test.

High school students should give particular consideration to participating in the program. A strong background in the classics will be a helpful step toward success in college literature classes and will also help increases vocabulary scores on scholastic achievement test.
The Process is a follows:
- Choose a book to read from the list of quizzes available. The books are divided into two categories by approximate reading levels. These categories are middle grades and upper grades. There are many books in the middle grades category for the younger students in our school.
- Many of the books have been donated by the Parent's Auxiliary or other students after they have finished reading them.
- The quizzes have been loaded into the computer in the library in the middle school building. You will need the password you have been assigned. At the end of the test, the correct score and points earned will be shown and will also print out in the office. A copy will be given to your reading teacher and another copy will be mailed to your home.
